The Game
Cut/Paste your way through different dreamscapes and create your own story all within a spreadsheet! Remove different elements within the dream and see how the art and story of the world shift and change based on what and in what order you choose to remove things.
Gameplay
Cutting Wool is a short narrative experience made entirely within an excel sheet. Art of different dreams pop up, and the player is given the choice to cut out different elements, which will change how the dream progresses. Each choice comes with a unique narration, creating an individual story based on how the player proceeds. At the end once the player has finished exploring the dream, they receive a dream journal allowing them to read through their entire experience.
Development
After studying how to use spreadsheets as a tool, I was challenged to make a game entirely in spreadsheets, with the core mechanics being based on basic features and only using macros for support. Developed over the span of 2 weeks, I iterated on the core concept, implemented systems and pixel art, programmed the necessary marcos, and wrote all the dialogue necessary to create a short but engaging experience.

Cutting Wool was featured on the official Microsoft 365 tiktok account to promote creative use of excel.
